Study in Canada, Build Your Career, Become a Permanent Resident
The Study-to-Work pathway is one of Canada's most reliable routes to permanent residency. Study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), gain Canadian work experience, and transition to PR through Express Entry or provincial programs.
Who This Is For
This pathway is ideal if you:
- Want to study in English or French-speaking Canada
- Are seeking skills development combined with immigration
- Can afford tuition and living costs (CAD $15,000-30,000/year for programs)
- Are willing to work during studies and after graduation
- Want flexibility — programs range from 8 months to 4+ years
How It Works
Study at a DLI
Enroll in a Designated Learning Institution program. Your school must be recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Get Your Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
After graduation, apply for a PGWP—an open work permit valid for up to 3 years (length depends on your program length). You can work for any employer.
Gain Canadian Work Experience
Work in Canada for 1-3 years. This builds your CRS score for Express Entry and makes you competitive for employer sponsorships and PNP programs.
Apply for Permanent Residency
Use Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class), Provincial Nominee Programs, or employer sponsorship to secure PR. Most take 6-12 months.
